Former Chelsea resident Charlie Sherman has returned to television.
Sherman, well-known sports anchorman and radio broadcaster, is the host of “Politics in Progress,” a new weekly television series that airs Sundays at 11 a.m. on WzMY-TV (formerly WNDS-TV 50 in Derry, N.H.). The show can be viewed on Channel 18 on Chelsea cable television boxes. WZMY-TV reaches 2.4 million households throughout New England.
Sherman was New Hampshire’s most popular television personality during his tenure as sports director of WMUR-TV Channel 9 in New Hampshire. He is currently the host of a morning radio show on five New Hampshire stations. He has won numerous awards for his excellence in sports broadcasting.
On his new show Sherman will discuss national, regional, and local issues with experts from the political scene.
The son of the late Allen and Louise Sherman, Charlie grew up on Shawmut Street and attended Shurtleff School and Chelsea High School where he served as president of the Class of 1970. He began his distinguished career in broadcasting as the host of the “Chelsea Sports Scene” radio show.
Known for his quick wit and eloquent sports reports on Channel 9, Sherman has often been called upon to serve as the master of ceremonies for major sports and social events in New Hampshire. He is one of the state’s most recognizable and admired media personalities.
Charlie and his wife, Michelle [Moore], live in Amherst, N.H. They have two children, Adam and Justin. His sister, Rhonda, and her husband, Bruce, and their son, Bryan, reside in Everett.
