Chelsea Boy’s soccer

The boy’s soccer Devils will play at home today against heated rival Northeast Metro in the finale of the ’09 regular season. The two are in a virtual tie for the top spot in Commonwealth Athletic Conference, and the winner of today’s game will be crowned the CAC champion.

Chelsea kept pace with Northeast by winning each of its last two games, starting with a 1-0 decision against Greater Lowell last Thursday. Elvin Merino scored the only goal of the game, and net minder Norliss Torres made sure it stood on its own by making several crucial stops on defense.

The Red Devils enjoyed a blowout win over Greater Lawrence on Tuesday to improve their record to 12-3-1. Merino had two assists to go with his two goals, while Yanquel DaSilva – a junior who typically plays on the defensive side – scored his first two goals of the season. John Carlo-Vega also struck for his first goal of the season, and Alex Palencia and Jaime Ayala each had scores in the 7-2 victory.
