Chelsea boys track team improves record to 5-0

The boy’s track and field team improved to 5-0 with a 110-26 win over Mystic Valley.  The highlights of the meet were Xavier Ortiz qualifying for the state meet in the 400 meters with a time of 52.4.  Ortiz also anchored the 4×400 meter team that also qualified for the state meet in a time of 3:39.1 and finished second in the long jump at 18 feet 4 inches.  The other runners on the relay team were senior captains Diego Reyes and Jon-Carlo Vega and senior Cesar Hernandez.

     The boys won thirteen of the fifteen events and swept five of the events.  Other winners for Chelsea, which has now won twenty three straight dual meets in the CAC were – Santos Hernandez in the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 18.4 and also was second in the triple jump at 34 feet 7 inches.  Hernandez finished third in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 68.8.  Dennis Sanabria won the two mile in a time of 12:38.  Norbert Simon won the 100 meter dash running 11.9, Simon also won the 200 meter dash in a time of 24.4 and was third in both the high jump (5’ 0”) and the long jump (17’ 7’).  Ugo Cvjetan won the mile by over thirty seconds running 5:03.  Brian Pliego ran a personal best in the 800 meters running 2:23.1 to win the event, Francisco Colindres was right behind for second in a time of 2:23.6.  The throwers swept the three throwing events.  Walter Cortez won the javelin throwing 116 feet 7 inches, he was also third in the shot put.  David Romero had a personal best in the shot put putting it 38 feet 1 inch.  Romero was also second in  the discus with a throw of 92 feet.  Rony Gomez won the discus just missing one hundred feet throwing 99 feet 5 inches. Christian Ortega was second in the shot put at 37 feet 8 inches and also second in the javelin at 109 feet 11 inches.  Rounding out the scoring in the throwing events were Juan Acher 83’ 1” in the discus and Alex Guerra in the javelin at 94 feet 11 inches.  Diego Reyes won the long jump at 19 feet 3 inches the triple jump at 37 feet 11 inches and the previously mentioned 4×400 meter relay.  Cesar Hernandez ran a personal best in the 400 meter running 54.5 for second place and first in the mile relay.  Luis Hernandez was second in the 400 meter hurdles (68.4), second in the high jump 5’ 4” and third in the 110 meter hurdles.  Also winning in the 400 meter hurdles was Jon-Carlo Vega in a time of 62.7 and finishing secong in the 100 meter dash was Jordan Bohannon running 13.1.  Finishing up the scoring was Jamie Aguilar in the mile who finished second in a time of 5:41.

     The boys will finish up thier dual meet schedule this week at Shawsheen 5/12 and will finish their suspended meet (due to lightning) at Whittier Tech on 5/14.  If the boys win these two meets they will be the dual meet champions for the third straight year.  The next week the boys will travel to Greater Lowell for the league meet where they will try for a third staight league title.

The Chelsea boy’s track and field team won their twenty fourth and twenty fifth straight dual meet against Whittier Tech and Shawsheen Tech last week.  These two victories completed another undefeated regular season and a third straight CAC regular season title.  This Thursday the boy’s will be traveling to Greater Lowell to defend their league title.

     The boy’s defeated Shawsheen Tech by the score of 85-51.  Winners for Chelsea were Jon-Carlo Vega in the 400 hurdles and the 800 meters, to remain undefeated in the dual meets.  Ugo Cvjetan won the two mile and the mile in a time of 11:34 and 5:14 respectivelly.  Xavier Ortiz won the 100 meters in 11.2 and the 200 meters in a time of 23.1, both personal bests and it also kept Ortiz undefeated in the league.  Cesar Hernandez ran 55.4 in the 400 meters and has not lost to a league opponent either.  Diego Reyes won the long jump with a leap of 18’ 11”.  Rounding out the wins for Chelsea was Luis Hernandez leaping 5’4” in the high jump.

     Other notable performances for Chelsea were Norbert Simon who finished second in the 100 meters and 200 meters behind Ortiz and also chipped in a third place in the long jump.  Joseph Arroyo ran a personal best in the mile to finish second in a time of 5:30 and was also on the winning 4 x 400 meter relay team.  Diego Reyes finished second in the 400 meters and in the triple jump and anchored the 4 x 400 meter relay team to victory.  Francisco Colindres ran a personal best in the 800 meter race to finish second in 2:19.  Christian Ortega was second in the shot put and David Romero was also second in the discus.  Cesar Hernandez finished behind Reyes in the long jump at 18’ 5”.  Finishing in third were Dennis Sanabria in the two mile, Santos Hernandez in the 110 metet hurdles and  Rony Gomez in the discus.

     After the league meet the boys will be competing in the Class B state championship at Cawley stadium in Lowell.  Representing Chelsea will be Xavier Ortix in the 200 meters and Jon-Carlo Vega in the 400 meter hurdles.  They will also be joined by Diego Reyes and Cesar Hernandez in the 4 X 400 meter relay.
