A 50 year-old Chelsea woman was found dead in a Maverick Street driveway Tuesday morning.

According to State Police and Chelsea police detectives investigating the case, Theresa Wilkes of 123 Maverick Street was found in her driveway shortly after 6:00 a.m. They responded to the location following a call from a local resident who had noticed the body.

They found Wilkes lying on the ground. She was not breathing and had no pulse.

Police surmised that Wilkes might have hit her head on the driveway tarmac, according to a source close to the investigation.

Upon further investigation, police learned that the deceased had filed for a one-day restraining order against her husband in October, claiming that he had kicked her in the ribs following a destructive rage during which he punched the walls inside their home.

Police later arrested Frederick Wilkes, 54, husband of the deceased.

He was charged with domestic assault and battery.

He was arraigned in Chelsea District Court on Wednesday.

The Suffolk County coroner will be conducting an autopsy on Mrs. Wilkes to determine the true cause of her death.

At that time, according to police officials, the charges against Mr. Wilkes could be upgraded if Mrs. Wilkes was found to have died of injuries caused by an altercation between she and her husband.

At this time, no cause of death has been determined.
