Hotel developer upping ante following FBI announcement

Following the announcement of the FBI coming to Chelsea last week, developers negotiating with the city for a project adjacent to the FBI site contacted City Manager Jay Ash.

“We are thinking about going larger than 100 rooms we have been estimating,” said officials for DMG, the group planning to build a Cambria Suites Hotel within the Emerald Block footprint. “With the FBI planning such a grand structure with all those people, it might make good sense to go larger,” said the company official.

DMG’s permitting is already approved.

City officials said the project will cost about $15 million.

The company is expecting to break ground in the late spring.

Ash said DMG officials have estimated that it will take 12-14 months to complete the hotel.

This new hotel would take its place in the same vicinity as the city’s major hotel, the Wyndham.
