Nancy Mongiello

Trustee Emerita of Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church

Nancy A. (Ordeshook) Mongiello of Revere, formerly of Chelsea, apparently in good health, passed away unexpectedly on November 3 while visiting family in Pennsylvania.  She was 91 years old.

Born in Chelsea, she was the daughter of the late Kiprian and Mary (Melnick) Ordeshook.  She attended Chelsea public schools and graduated from Chelsea High School in 1939.

Her family was among the original families to build and found her beloved Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church on Addison Street in Chelsea where she was a Trustee Emerita.  She was an active council member, belonged to the church choir and was a member of the Woman’s Guild. She was also very active at the Chelsea Senior Center.

She moved to Revere in 1985 and retired as a quality insurance inspector, having worked at the Pfizer American Optical Eye Glass Co. Division for 25 years.

She was the wife of the late Angelo J. Mongiello; beloved mother of John A. Mongiello Sr. and his wife, Andrea M. of Revere; sister of the late Charles Ordeshook, Mathew Ordeshook, Peter Ordeshook, Stanley Ordess, Michael Odess and Frances Orluck and is also lovingly survived by two grandchildren, Angela M. Riehl and her husband, Steven J. of Pennsylvania and John A. Mongiello. Jr. of Chelsea; three great-grandchildren, Mary Kate, Emily Anastasia and Rachael Marie Riehl of Pennsylvania.  She was the loving friend of Everaldo X. Aguilar of Chelsea, whom she considered a grandson.

Her Funeral will be held from the William R. Carafa & Son Home For Funerals, 389 Washington Ave., Chelsea on Saturday, November 12 at 9 a.m. followed by Funeral Matins at the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, 8 Addison St., Chelsea at 10 a.m.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.  Visiting hours in the funeral home will be on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Panikhida Service at 4:15 P.M.  Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.  In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, 110 Washington Ave., Chelsea, MA 02150.

Cecile Marie Sherman

Of Florida, formerly of Chelsea

Cecile Marie (LeBlanc) Sherman of Gainesville, Florida, formerly of Boston and Chelsea, died on October 31. She was 98 years old.

She was the beloved wife of the late Jack Sherman; loving granddaughter of Romain and Mary LeBlanc; devoted mother of Richard Sherman and his wife, Marcia; loving grandmother of Jaclyn Sherman Rhoads and her husband, Jesse Rhoads, and Lee Sherman; dear half-sister of Donald Ray and David Ray.

Frank Cannizzo

Lifelong Revere resident

Frank J. Cannizzo, a lifelong resident of Revere, died on November 6 at the Anne Mark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 85 years old.

A US Navy veteran of World War II and a late member of the Plumbers Union Local # 12, he was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Mary (Raia); dear brother of Eleanor DeAmelio and her husband, Harold, Josephine Flaherty and her late husband, John, all of Revere and the late Anna D’Orlando and her late husband, John; loving uncle of Janice Decoulos, Mary Dunn, John Flaherty, Diane DeAmelio and, Robert DeAmelio, all of Revere, Joan Isenberg of Virginia, John D’Orlando of Florida, Paul D’Orlando of New York and Karen D’Orlando of California.

His Funeral will be held from the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons-Bruno Funeral Home, 128 Revere St., Revere, today, Thursday, November 10 at 8 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony’s Church at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Jennie Hankus

Telephone Company retiree

Jennie C. (Niedzwiecki) Hankus, a retired telephone company office worker, died on November 4 at the Warde Health Center in Windham, NH where she has been receiving supportive care for the past five years.  She was 90 years of age.

Born and raised in Chelsea, she was the beloved daughter of the late Julian and Anna (Olszewska) Niedzwiecki.  She attended St. Stanislaus Parochial School and graduated from Chelsea High School.

She married John C. Hankus and together they settled briefly in Dorchester before moving to Somerville.  They resided there for over 25 years raising their three sons.  She worked outside of her home as an office administrator for New England Tel & Tel Co. and also worked part time for Park-Snows Dept. Store in Davis Square, Somerville for several years. After retiring, she and her husband John settled in Atkinson, NH.  She remained there until leaving for Warde Health Center after her husband’s death.

She was a former parishioner of St. Stanislaus Polish Church in Chelsea and the American Legion, Pulaski Post 34, Ladies Aux., So. Boston.

She was the beloved wife of the late John C. Hankus; devoted mother and mother in law of Frank G. Hankus and his wife, Sandra of Hampstead NH, Julian Hankus and his wife, Charlotte of Derry NH, Esther Hankus of Palm Bay, Florida and her late husband, John Hankus; dear sister of Elizabeth Brzezicki of Bristol, CT, Mary Lewandowski of Virginia, Theresa Olson and Josephine Kava, both of Brockton and the late Anna Konieczny, Veronica Goc, Helen Cahlane Walter, Gregory and Victor Niedzwiecki.  She is also survived by four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was said on Tuesday in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, Windham NH. Florence Twombly

Commercial Union Insurance Company Retiree

Florence V. Twombly, a longtime Chelsea resident, died on November 2 at the Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center in Medford. She was 86 years old.

Born and raised in Chelsea, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Florence (Gibbeau) Twombly. She attended local schools, was a longtime Chelsea resident and had been residing in Malden for several years. She worked for many years as a file clerk for Commercial Union Insurance Company. She greatly enjoyed travelling.

She was the beloved daughter of the late Ernest and Florence (Gibbeau) Twombly; loving sister of Joseph E. Twombly and Robert Twombly, both of Malden, the late Edna Baker and Frederick Twombly; cherished aunt of Patrice and Eric Montefusco, Derek Paradis and the late William Paradis.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Rose Church on November 7. Alexander ‘Al’ Day

Of Tewksbury, formerly of Chelsea

Alexander W. “Al” Day of Tewksbury, formerly of Chelsea, died on November 2. He was 68 years old.

A US Army Vietnam Era veteran, he retired from U.S. Postal Service, Prudential Center.

He was the beloved husband for 38 years of Mary Ellen (Morrissey) Day; son of the late Alexander and Marian (Nowicki) Day; father of Janet M. Day and her spouse, Michael S. Brothers of Lowell; devoted grandfather of Cassidy Ladd, Michael J. Brothers and Braden S. Brothers; brother of Michael Day of Malden and the late Joanna Calif. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Valeria Lachiana

Of Dracut, formerly of Chelsea

Valeria Ann (Miller) Lachiana of Dracut, formerly of Revere and Chelsea, died on November 2. She was 62 years old.

Born in Chelsea and a resident of Chelsea and Revere until moving to Dracut in 2003, she passed away at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington after a long illness.

She was the devoted wife of Peter J. Lachiana, Sr.; beloved mother of Lisa Buckley and her husband, Paul of North Reading, Peter J. Lachiana, Jr. and his companion, Kaitlyn of Dracut, Valerie DiMare and her husband, Robert of Revere, Debbie Sicotte and her husband, Thomas of Dracut and Lynnelle Lachiana and her husband, Michael of Everett; sister of Gail, Michael, Debbie and Eugene Miller; cherished grandmother of Jeremy, Sean, Liam, Timothy, Audrey, Nicole, Matthew, Michael, Derek, Cole, Patrick, Emily and Alexis.
