Chelsea Police Still Searching for Gunman

Chelsea police are searching for a gunman responsible for an afternoon shooting that caused panic on Broadway and forced the lockdown of a nearby school.

On Monday Chelsea police responded to 731 Broadway at 2:44 p.m. and found 21-year-old Chelsea resident, Luis Maldonado, who was conscious and alert after being shot in the torso by an unknown assailant.

Maldonado was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Witnesses reported hearing two gunshots and observed a White or Hispanic male wearing a green hooded jacket with a white stripe flee the area on foot.

As a precaution, the Clark Avenue Middle School was locked down for a short time while police canvassed the area for the shooter.

Chelsea Detectives are continuing the investigation.
