Rose Marie DeGruttola

Worked for First National Stores

Rose Marie (Gallo) DeGruttola, a long time East Boston resident, died on February 3 at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center of Revere. She was 91 years old.

Born and raised in East Boston, she was a graduate of East Boston High School, Class of 1939. In her early working career, she was a stitcher in the Boston Garment District and later, for several years, she worked as a baker for the First National Stores in Somerville.

She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony D. DeGruttola who died in April of 1999; the cherished sister of Marguerite A. Capone of Revere and the late John, Carmen, Frank and Ralph Gallo and Eleanor Tavella; devoted aunt of Richard S. Capone and his wife, Carol of Wilmington, John A. Capone and his wife, Colleen of Manchester, NH, Marianne LeBlanc and her husband, Frederick LeBlanc of Melrose and she also leaves several other nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Her Funeral will be conducted from the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere today, Thursday, February 7 at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Revere at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Marie Jeanette Burke

Longtime AA Activist and Sponsor

Marie Jeanette Burke of Chelsea passed away on December 4 at the Katz Rehab Facility in Chelsea after a brief illness. She was 85 years old.

She was the loving stepmother and grandmother to Linda MacTaggart, Carol Rampino and Judy Miraldi and their families.  Known as Jeanette, she had many friends as she was very active in AA for 39 years providing sponsorship for many in need.

Funeral arrangements were by the Goodrich Funeral Home, Lynn. Burial was in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.

Irene Terchiak

Retired Nurse’s Aide and Lifelong Chelsea Resident

Irene E. (Hessenflow) Terchiak, a lifelong resident of Chelsea, passed away January 31at the Sutton Hill Center in North Andover, surrounded by her loving family.  She was 84 years old.

Born in Chelsea, the daughter of the late Jesse and Emma W. (Spracklin) Hessenflow, she was a retired nurse’s aide. She worked at the Shawmut Nursing Home in Chelsea and also at the Ocean View Nursing Center on Revere Beach Boulevard, which later changed its name to the Oak Island Skilled Nursing Center.  She worked as a caregiver to the seniors in residence at the above nursing care facilities for more than 25 years.

She was the beloved mother of Linda J. Baker of Winslow, Maine and Irene L. Rather and her husband, Shawn A. of Lawrence; sister of the late Lillian Tewksbury and is also lovingly survived by two grandchildren, Shawn A. Rather, Jr. and his wife, Shiori of Portsmouth, NH and Corissa L. Rather of Lawrence and one great grandson, Andra Rather.

Funeral arrangements were by the William R. Carafa & Son Home For Funerals, Chelsea.

Murry George Simon

Member of Revere Planning Board, Owned Ace Burglar and Fire Alarm, Active in Many Organizations

Murry George Simon died on January 30 after a long  illness. He was 88 years old.

Born, raised and educated in Chelsea, he graduated from Chelsea High School, Class of 1943 and later moved and spent over 67 years living in Revere.

During World War II, he worked as a civilian employee of the Charlestown Navy Yard. Later he founded and owned Ace Burglar and Fire Alarm in Revere. He also was a licensed real estate broker.

Murry was very active in many organizations; he was a former Mason, member of the Square and Compass Club, Past President of MA Alarm Assoc., former member of the Brotherhood of Temple B’Nai Israel of Beachmont and Congregation Tifereth Israel were he also sat on the Board of Directors and served as an officer. former Noble Grande of Kearsage Lodge of the Odd Fellows, Revere Ward 2 State Democratic Committee Delegate and Treasurer and was currently a City of Revere Planning Board Committee Member.

He was the beloved husband of  Jeanette “Janet” (Seltzerman) Simon; devoted father of Natalie Simon and Lois Simon Sauls and her husband, Allen Sauls; loving son of the late Nathan Simon and the late Bessie (Fisher) Simon; dear brother of the late Max Simon and the late Frieda Bell and loving grandfather of Charlee Bianchini and Iladro Sauls.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Torf Funeral Chapel, Chelsea.
