SBA Massachusetts Small Business of the Year award winner Golden Cannoli Shells Company, Inc. was honored by Congressman Michael Capuano, SBA New England Regional Administrator Seth Goodall and other senior officials at a special ceremony held in Chelsea, Massachusetts.

Golden Cannoli owners Valerie Bono, Ed Bresciani, Eric Bresciani, and Maria Elena Malloy hosted the delegation and provided a tour of their business.

Golden Cannoli Shells, Inc. is a family-owned small business that was started more than 40 years ago and specializes in making hand-rolled premium cannoli shells for distribution nationwide. The company has received national recognition and has achieved growth with help from the SBA and First Trade Union Bank, receiving SBA loans for equipment upgrades as well as the purchase of a new 30,000 square foot manufacturing facility. The owners also work with representatives from SCORE to learn, manage and restructure the business to run at maximum efficiencies.

“Congratulations to Chelsea’s Golden Cannoli for being named a 2014 Massachusetts Small Business of the Year. Over the years they have expanded from a small storefront bakery to a premier supplier of handmade cannoli shells and fillings. Throughout this growth period, staff and management continued giving back to the community through charitable donations and volunteer efforts. The company is deserving of this recognition and I am pleased to celebrate with them,” said Congressman Capuano.

“The Golden Cannoli management team is an outstanding example of what can be accomplished through hard work, determination and talent,” said SBA’s New England Regional Administrator Seth A. Goodall.  “They have taken Golden Cannoli to unprecedented levels of growth for a small business and are a model of community involvement and service.  I am extremely pleased that Massachusetts has named them the Small Business of the Year for 2014.”

Golden Cannoli will be honored again with the other Massachusetts Small Business Week 2014 winners at an SBA awards breakfast with Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick at Lombardo’s on May 13, 2014. Aspiring entrepreneurs, small business owners and others are invited to attend and can register by visiting the SBA Massachusetts calendar of events at www.sba.gov/ma.
