Crowds Come out for the 8th Annual ALS & MS Walk for Living

By Kate Anslinger Admiral’s Hill was bustling with activity on Sunday morning, Sept. 25, as Massachusetts’ residents came from all over to participate in the 8th annual ALS and MS Walk for Living. The fundraiser supports The Leonard Florence Center for Living, which provides cutting-edge independent living for patients with ALS, offers a supportive environment and is equipped with dedicated staff. This year’s race was in honor of Bill and Sharon Stein, who are major benefactors of the ALS residences. “Thanks to the employees who dedicate so much of their time,” said COO of the Chelsea Jewish Foundation, Betsy Mullen. “They give 100 percent and that inspires me.” This year’s event surpassed all previous ones, having the most participants yet and raising $125,000. The festivities were emceed by legendary talk show host Matt Siegel of ‘Matty in the Morning.’ “This guy is a real hero,” announced Siegel as he gave props to Steve Saling, who has ALS and played a large role in designing the residences. Positive vibes were in the air as family members, friends and residents gathered in the Leonard Florence Center parking lot donning their race shirts.
