Ernest V. “Ernie” Corea

Member of the Chelsea Knights of Columbus and Painters and Allied Trades Union Local 35. 

Ernest V. Corea entered into eternal rest on Wednesday morning, Feb. 21 at the Leonard Florence Center for Living in Chelsea.  He was 98 years old.

A lifelong resident of Chelsea, the son of the late Frank and Amelia (Orlando) Corea, Ernie attended Chelsea Public Schools and graduated from Chelsea High School, Class of 1938.  On Sept. 28, 1942, Ernest enlisted in the US Navy and during his time in the service he received the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and 2 Asiatic Pacific stars. Petty Officer Ernest was honorably discharged on Dec. 9, 1945.

Ernie was a painter by trade.  Before entering the Navy, he worked for his father at Frank Corea Contractor.  Upon returning home from the service, he worked for various painting contractors.  Ernie retired in 1981.  He was a late member of the Chelsea Knights of Columbus and the Painters and Allied Trades Union Local #35.  Ernie enjoyed life to its fullest and will be greatly missed by all his family.

The beloved husband of Catherine T. (Ienna) Corea of Chelsea with whom he shared 71 years of marriage, he was the devoted father of Ernest V. Corea, Jr. and his wife, Florence of Saugus, Joseph F. “Jay” Corea and his wife, Susan of Pelham, NH, Catherine F. Corea-Arbing and her husband, Robert of Weymouth and Maryann Corea Carroll and her husband, Joseph of Chelsea. He was the brother of the late Frank N. Corea, Robert Corea and Lawrence Corea and is also lovingly survived by five grandchildren: Amanda Antonelli and her husband, Brian of Melrose, Joseph “Jay” Corea, Jr. of Lowell, Christopher Corea of Pelham, NH, Marie Corea of Beverly and Joanna Corea of Saugus and two great grandchildren, Catherine Amelia and Jacob Antonelli of Melrose.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Church on Feb. 24 with funeral arrangements entrusted to the Carafa Family Funeral Home.  Entombment was at the Holy Cross Mausoleum in Malden. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ernie’s memory may be made to Our Lady of Grace Church, 59 Nichols St., Chelsea, MA 02150.
